My favorite type of writing

My favorite type of writing would be narrative. Narrative writing is basically story telling. These stories could be fantasy, fiction or factual (meh). Science-fiction is my favorite narrative writing. Growing up without other boys to interact with regularly meant spending a lot of time alone with my pets and toys. This lifestyle fostered the use of the imagination. Reality becomes what we make and not the actual world in which we live. When playing with GI Joe, Star Wars or He-Man action figures a story was always created in my mind. Snake Eyes and Teela couldn't interact without a story justifying the time they spent toge

ther. Usually my sister's Barbie would be kidnapped by the forces of COBRA causing Han Solo and the Joes to team up to save her. Narrative writing opens the door for creativity to flourish. Why live in a real world where there is Narrative writing allows for imaginary worlds and events to become as real as the paper the story is written on. The abstract now has a life. George Lucas gave movie goers the experience such as the Force and ice planets like Hoth as parts of a space fantasy narrative. Youtube is now populated with videos from fans creating their own stories based on his initial ideas. J.R.R.Tolkeen created a narrative that touches cultures on levels unimagined. By creating the middle earth stories, fans experience a journey that is absent of boring factual data. Renaissance faires populate the country. We are able to create our own characters with their own narratives.

Escapism might be a proper name for this type of writing. Surrealism is a type science-fiction. The rules of reality do not apply. The world in the space of the canvas becomes what the write chooses. Salvador Dali's Elephants is an example. The elephants stand on legs that are disproportionate to their bodies. In the real world, those legs would snap like toothpicks under the weight of the elephants' weight, yet Dali creates an image where these skinny legs support the tonnage of the elephants.

Strategies from science-fiction story telling that could help my writing would be the development of setting, and being more thorough in following a path of thinking that is understandable.
