The Writing Process

The past month has been a month of business. I haven't written this much in this short time span since 2009. Writing at least three to four days a week is a daunting task. The amount of time needed to meditate on the subject and topic accompanied with the time to write the blog can be exhaustive, however, writing this much has been beneficial. I believe the most impactful part of the writing process is the structure and organization of thoughts. At times I tend to ramble off topic onto other subjects. That's partially because I may not know what to say and am having trouble forming ideas into concrete phrases or sentences. My writing has shifted from a jumble of loosely associated thoughts to more structured sentences. An example would be the implementation of solid examples following a general idea or phrase. The reason for this is spending time reading books on contemporary art and how to write about them. There is a planned orginaztion to writing about as there's is to writing science fiction or fantasy. It's interesting that similar processes apply to both areas. Another way writing has shifted is eliminating unnecessary adjectives and the idea that I have to "sound" smart. The writing should happen organically within given parameters. "Sounding" smart or intelligent will happen if the work is well thought out, planned and is understood by the reader. It also helps if I, as the writer understands the topic and sifts out the "fluff". Substantiating statements is another positive shift the writing process has provided. Moving forward I plan to balance critiquing writing with writing creatively. This Will be challenging to balance but I believe a writing about a topic can be scientifically based but still incorporate creativity through metaphors and other articles of speech. Let's keep writing and see how much improvement is made!
